Kimbra Talks About Suiting Up For 'Warrior' With Mark Foster, A-Trak

Singer ventures into dance-music realm for the power track, which was created for Converse's 3 Artists 1 Song series.

Before Kimbra hooked up with Foster the People leading man Mark Foster and well A-Trak for "Warrior," she had just "dabbled" in the dance music realm. But on the new track, she plants all four firmly on the floor for the track.

"It's refreshing to kind of go into different genres, sometimes when you've been working on your own stuff for so long," Kimbra told MTV News recently. Currently riding high off the success of her Gotye collaboration, "Somebody That I Used To Know," the singer will release her album, Vows, Stateside in May.

She ended up with Foster and A-Trak at the request of Converse for their 3 Artists, 1 Song series, which brings together artists to work on music and a coinciding music video to help launch the brand's latest shoe line.

And it's not just the song that's big, but also the message of the song. Kimbra offers up a girl-power battle cry on the chorus, singing, "You're just pushing me down, pushing me down, pushing me down/(They tell you, 'Trust your head, be like men' but never feel like you're good enough)/You're just crushing me down, crushing me down, crushing me down/(They wanna take our light, make us fight, but never cry for the ones you love!)/(I'll be your warrior, warrior)."

That in-your-face feeling was actually made with very little face-to-face contact between the three artists, as they were all on separate continents when they mad the song.

"I think that was fun for us all to have boundaries in that sense and not be able to be in the same room," she told MTV News. "But it was kind of fun and we did get the chance to sit down together at one point and that was really great after talking on the phone for so long to finally be in the same room together."

The power of the song's lyrics is mirrored in the video, which features the trio as luchadores battling it out for supremacy. And, despite several shots where the trio is all together, Kimbra let us in on a big secret.

"So the video shoot was challenging because I couldn't be in L.A. for the time of the shoot," she said. "So I think I was in Europe at the time, so we organized for my shoot to be done to a green screen. There's a little bit of face replacement in there as well. I'm telling you all the secrets!

"But it's fun. It's cool that it all looked continuous enough," she added. "I'm a bit bummed I didn't get to do the round-house kicks. That was a stunt double. It was really fun. I always say to them, I could have done [the kicks]. They jumped to conclusions there."

Researchers found that the women whose diets corresponded most closely to the DASH diet and ate the most fruits and vegetables were 20 percent less likely to develop estrogen-receptor negative breast cancer (a type that accounts for about 25 percent of all cases) compared to women whose eating habits were least like the DASH diet.

Lots of Fiber: Here, researchers compared the results of 10 studies to conclude that a diet high in fiber may be protective. Published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in August, this study found an 11 percent lower risk of breast cancer among women who ate the most fiber compared to women who ate the least. What the authors don?t know for sure is whether the diet specifically lowered breast cancer risk or if the risk dropped because of the overall health benefits of fiber.

Fish:? Specifically, this means fish that provide omega-3 fatty acids, also known as ?fish oil.? A study published this year showed that women who took fish oil supplements had a 32 percent reduced risk of the most common type of breast cancer: ductal carcinoma. The researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle said it is too soon to advise women to take fish oil supplements to prevent breast cancer, but we already know that omega-3 fatty acids reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke and that we can get it by eating salmon, tuna, halibut, sardines and other fish that live in cold water.

Turmeric: This spice, native to India, and other parts of Asia is being scientifically scrutinized for its anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory benefits. Some studies have suggested that turmeric can slow the growth of certain tumors, including breast cancers. Its active ingredient, the antioxidant curcumin, has been shown in some laboratory studies to interfere with key aspects of cancer development and spread. According to the American Cancer Society, researchers have found that curcumin can kill cancer cells in lab dishes and reduce the growth of surviving cells. In animal studies it has reduced development of several types of cancer and has shrunk animal tumors. Turmeric is used to flavor curry and is the ingredient that gives American mustard its yellow color. In addition to eating curry, you can drink turmeric tea.

Remembering my review, I went to Amazon to leave a comment about the judgment against Mortenson. Lo and behold! At least one of the idiots deleted her comments last night. I assume she did this immediately after the news broke.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Patrick Dempsey is bringing his passion for auto racing to television with a new documentary series.

The "Grey's Anatomy" star will produce "Road to Le Mans," a four-part series about his competition in the venerable French race, the Velocity channel said Thursday.

Dempsey, who has a professional auto racing team based in Georgia, will be both owner and driver at the 24-hour endurance race.

"Road to Le Mans," set to air by mid-2013, will include his team's preparation for the event, including sponsor acquisition, training and time trials, and the race itself.

Dempsey, a documentary buff, said combining the series and the art of racing is a "perfect fit."

For the fledgling, 6-month-old Velocity, "Road to Le Mans" represents its biggest financial commitment yet to a series or a special, said Bob Scanlon, the channel's general manager and senior vice president.

Velocity is part of Discovery Communications, which was to announce its channels' upcoming programming Thursday in New York for advertisers. Formerly HD Theater, Velocity reaches about 40 million homes and focuses on topics including cars, sports, adventure and travel.

Dempsey, who has driven at Le Mans before, exemplifies the "timeless cool" that is part of the channel's brand as it targets a male, upscale audience, Scanlon said.

The actor also can bring racing's drama to a new generation, he said, following in the tradition of other stars who competed on film and in real life, including Paul Newman ("Winning"), James Garner ("Grand Prix") and Steve McQueen ("Le Mans").

The mix, however, creates a burden of proof that an actor isn't merely a dilettante driver.

"You have people who are skeptical, who are looking for any mistake to make that the story, rather than the small things you've done successfully," Dempsey said.

He and his Mazda racing team have gained increasing credibility. Even with commitments to his day job that limit his competition, Dempsey's posted top 10 finishes, including a career-best third last year with his teammates at the Rolex 24 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

His love of the sport is based on elements including its physical and mental challenges and something hard to find in Hollywood: "Control of your own destiny," Dempsey said. The track also is definitive.

"In racing, either you're fast and you're the first one across the line, or you're not," he said.

At this point, his heart is with screen projects about the sport, Dempsey said. Besides "Road to Le Mans," he is to star in the film adaptation of Garth Stein's 2008 novel, "The Art of Racing in the Rain."

He's been devoted to the project, which finally found a home at Universal, for five years.

"It's the material for me that's gonna generate the most passion," he said. "With 'Grey's,' after eight years, there's very little left to explore and you're pretty much on autopilot."

That sounds as if he's ready to call it quits as Dr. Derek Shepherd, aka McDreamy, on the ABC medical drama. But he demurs.

"Nothing has been resolved, either to end or to continue," he said, adding diplomatically that "one has to be grateful" for work opportunities in today's economic climate.
