A man who was convicted of stalking Madonna and who allegedly made threats against Halle Berry escaped from a California mental hospital on Feb. 3, according to Los Angeles police.
A recent report from KCAL9 revealed that Robert Dewey Hoskins, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for stalking the singer "walked away" from Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, a suburb of Los Angeles.
Police said in a statement, "Hoskins is highly psychotic when not taking his medication and has very violent tendencies. The public is being warned to notify police immediately if he is found, and to not engage him on their own."
Hoskins, 54, stalked Madonna in the early 1990s and threatened to harm her if she would not marry him. In 1995, he climbed over the wall of her California home, jumped into her pool and was shot by a security guard.
His arrest led to a 1996 trial, where Madonna testified that he gave her nightmares. The BBC quotes her as having said at the time "if he couldn't have me, he was going to slice my throat from ear to ear." He was convicted, and after his release in 2006 was transferred to a hospital.
Hoskins may have expanded his reach. E! News reports that Halle Berry's recent interest in moving overseas stems from fear of stalkers. The website revealed that Richard Franco -- who pleaded guilty to stalking Berry earlier this year -- was released Feb. 4; Hoskins allegedly has also threatened to slit the Oscar-winner's throat. (Franco is on five years' probation and there's a 10-year restraining order forcing him to stay away from Berry.)
The Associated Press states that Hoskins was convicted of vandalism in July 2011, and adds that police have been unable to find him in the week since he has gone missing.
